Specialties
  • Firefly Squid (ホタルイカ): Namerikawa is one of Toyama Bay’s principal firefly squid fishing areas, and the squid is the city’s signature seasonal seafood. It is especially associated with spring and is served in dishes such as vinegared-miso dressed firefly squid.
  • Red Snow Crab / Koshino Benizuwai Crab (ベニズワイガニ・高志の紅ガニ): Red snow crab landed at Namerikawa Port is branded as Koshino Benizuwai Crab. The city describes it as a winter delicacy valued for its freshness, sweetness, and rich flavor.
  • White Shrimp (白エビ): White shrimp is one of the seafood species associated with Toyama Prefecture’s coastal food culture and is listed alongside firefly squid and yellowtail as a Toyama fish. Its delicate sweetness makes it a characteristic regional seafood.
  • Toyama Bay Sushi (富山湾寿司): Namerikawa’s restaurants use fresh Toyama Bay seafood, including locally landed firefly squid, in sushi and other regional dishes. Toyama Bay sushi is therefore a practical way to experience the city’s local catch, although it is a regional cuisine rather than a dish unique only to Namerikawa.
  • Toyama Rice and Seasonal Produce (富山米・地場野菜): Namerikawa promotes locally produced rice and vegetables alongside its marine products. These agricultural foods complement the city’s seafood specialties and are available through local products and community initiatives.
